Hairspray the Musical
Program dates: Monday June 17th through Friday July 19th
The King Center for the Performing Arts of Brevard Community College in partnership with the Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse is excited to announce the second annual Summer Musical Theatre Project. The project begins on Monday June 17th and culminates with Hairspray, The Broadway Musical performed by the participating students of the Summer Musical Theatre Project on the King Center stage Friday July 19, Saturday July 20 and Sunday July 21.Hairspray the Musical

Classes daily 12:30pm - 4:30pm


The five week hands-on intensive project is open to all incoming high school freshman through college juniors as of school year fall 2013.
The project fee is $325. A non-refundable application fee of $25 must accompany the application and received on or before May17th, after this date through June 17 the fee is $35. Please make checks payable to King Center for the Performing Arts –SMTP. Applications are processed on a first come basis. Space is limited!
The project fee of $325 includes the following:
-Five week course of study in musical theatre, culminating with a fully staged production of Hairspray, through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI)
-Eligible students may register for Human Service Experience, a one credit hour elective course designed to provide students with a service-learning experience. A minimum of 20 hours of community service is required.
-Two complimentary tickets to one performance of Hairspray
-One complimentary ticket to the Historic Cocoa Village 24th season announcement party on Saturday June 29
-One complimentary project t-shirt
-Chat back and critiques with industry guests
-Study materials
The application fee is non-refundable and will be applied to the project fee if accepted into the program. The project is directed under the leadership of professionals in the industry and presented in a professional theatrical environment. With a focus on developing and cultivating skills such as auditioning, acting, stage experience, casting, dance, orchestra and behind the scene support roles. The project includes chat back and critiques with industry guest and educational studies in musical theatre.
A limited number of fee discounts may be available for multiple participants in the same household as well as scholarships for financial hardship. Proof of financial need may be requested.
