MESSAGE FROM THE MAESTRO
“On March 16, 2019, we’ll give the Regional Premiere of a beautiful Romantic-era symphony by Amy Beach. I’m excited to share this amazing piece of music by a gifted composer whose music we should all know. Her Gaelic Symphony was composed around the same time as Dvorak’s beloved New World Symphony and shares a similar style and spirit. We’ll also feature an unjustly neglected work by Dvorak – his delightful Violin Concerto is an absolute masterpiece that deserves to be performed more often. Our violin soloist is a great champion of the piece, and we look forward to welcoming Andrew Sords to the BSO for the first time. And since it’s St. Patrick’s Day weekend, we’ll open the concert with Percy Grainger’s Irish Tune from County Derry – a lush setting for strings and horns of Danny Boy.” ~Chris Confessore
