Dudley BuckFestival Overture on the National Air
Howard Hanson – Piano Concerto (Scott Watkins, piano)
Antonin Dvorak – Symphony No. 9 From the New World

Dvorak’s thrilling New World Symphony highlights this American-inspired season-opener. 2014 marks the 200th Anniversary of the Star Spangled Banner, so we open our season with Dudley Buck’s thrilling overture based on our National Anthem, which concludes with an audience sing-along! American composer Howard Hanson wrote wonderfully romantic orchestral works. His rarely-performed Piano Concerto is played by Scott Watkins, a Hanson scholar who is releasing a CD this September featuring Hanson’s Piano Sonata.

Enhance your concert experience! You are invited to attend Concert Conversations with Christopher Confessore. This informative discussion begins approximately 40 minutes before the performance. Main floor is open seating during this interactive chat.
